Meyer Lemon Success

My little 2 foot Meyer lemon tree gave me 4 lemons this year!
It was planted a year ago last fall 2013.
It's good to see that all the watering and tender loving care is starting to pay off!

I'm so exited!

These are lemons form a coworker of Mike from his tree.
He generously gave use 2 whole grocery bags full!
I've been using them to make Water Kefir Lemonade!
Yum!

Texas Garden Planting Chart

After my lovely walk in the woods, I went to a little Relief Society activity on gardening in Texas.

Kelli - in the orange shirt - is full of knowledge about everything green and
how to grow yummy stuff in Texas.
She learned by trial and error.
She shared her gardening wisdom with a few of us, and took us to the
Woodlands Community Gardens, where locals can rent a plot for very cheep.
Growing season is almost year round!
It was pretty cool, and again we had PERFECT weather!

Her little class gave me the desire to do more gardening.

Just look at this Kale and Broccoli, they are so beautiful!
Some people really know what they are doing...

My Morning walk with the girls...
Notice the leaves changing color... Yep in December...
I found some more weird looking fungus.

Meyer Lemon tree & Hydregea for Mother's Day

A few of my Mother's Day Indulgences

A very young Meyer Lemon tree.
I heard they do very well here in Texas!
I will keep it in a nice big pot for a few years, until it is ready for the ground.

A Hydrangea.
I want lots of them in my yard!
Chloe is so funny, she cannot help it, when I take pictures of plants and things
she has to be in the frame somehow!

Now I just need my Manly Man to get a hold of that shovel and dig me a big whole!

Dinner Crepes

And look what I found at Trader's Joe!
Macaroons... 12 of them!
They were a little on the sweet side and some flavors I did not care for
like coffee, and salted caramel...

My favorite was the pistachio flavor!

Earth Day

Last week, while leaving the forest, Sarah and I were given, by a nice couple,
3 seedlings of Bald Cypresses (about 5-6 inches high).
They had some 500 in their truck bed, ready to give out that week-end at a University.

Sarah ended up planting them in our back yard Monday the 22d,
Which happened to be Earth Day come to find out later on!!!
What coincidence!

I already have one of those trees in our back yard.
I fall in love with it over and over again every Spring,
It comes back to life with such beautiful tender green needles...

I hope I can keep at least one of these babies alive to grow strong a beautiful!
All 3 would be a huge success!

Sweet Potato Vine - It Grows Like a Weed

It's been a learning curve:
Knowing what flowers and plants can withstand
the Houston weather,
my piney shady back yard
and my dog who will dig up anything I plant in the ground.

Well, I know that Sweet Potato Vine loves it here and loves my back yard!
I also started planting stuff in pots, Chloe can't dig those up!
(I had tried covering new plants with rocks but it didn't work, she loves that tender soft dug up dirt)
Oh by the way there are 2 growing seasons here!
Spring and fall!
Pretty cool!

All that green vine on the ground in the middle of my yard
was one tiny Vine planted in a big pot! You can't even see the pot, it's covered!
